All 3 Major Indexes Advanced On Cheaper Oil & Gold, and Favorable Government Reports

The 3 major indexes gained ground today as both crude oil for future delivery and NY Spot Gold got cheaper; the numerous government reports released today were mostly positive. 1,689,481,900 shares were traded @ The New York Stock Exchange®.


Just In: Looks like the dream of a transatlantic equities market is about to become a reality: The NYSE Group, owners of The New York Stock Exchange®, will buy Paris-based Euronext for about $10 billion. The deal still requires a green light from both American and European regulators, and from both groups of shareholders.

Euronext is the #2 stock exchange in Europe.

Shares of NYSE Group (NYX) gained $2.65 (4.43%) to close @ $62.45.


Shares of Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) component AT&T (T) gained $0.85 (3.26%) to close @ $26.91.


Shares of Rambus (RMBS) gained $4.49 (18.51%) to close @ $28.75.


Shares of Novell (NOVL) fell by $1.13 (14.62%) to close @ $6.60.


Shares of Sears Holdings (SHLD) gained $8.92 to close @ $160.79.

Shares of J.C. Penney (JCP) gained $3.95 to close @ $64.79 on news of strong sales.
