All 3 Majors Lost More Than 33 Percent On The Year

All 3 major indexes gave up more than 33% on the year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) experienced its worst yearly decline since the Great Depression. For both the DJIA and the S&P 500 Index, 2008 was their third-worst year ever.

For the year, the DJIA lost 4,488.43 points (-33.837%), the NASDAQ Composite Index lost 1,075.25 points (-40.541%), and the S&P 500 Index declined by 565.11 points (-38.486%).
